About Our School:
Emerald is a neighborhood school with a balance of diversity that mirrors the real world. We believe building positive relationships and eliminating fears for every student are critical for maximum learning to take place. Contributing to our continued success are social development, strong balanced literacy and math programs, and an incredibly dedicated staff with high but realistic expectations. We provide support for our parents through Love and Logic parenting classes, at no charge and with child care provided. This school also offers free and tuition preschool classes that have a focus on both academic and developmental learning standards.

Emerald Elementary was built in 1958 as the first elementary school in Broomfield. Emerald has gone through many improvements including enlarging the school. The school has Preschool-5th grade students.  We are proud to be one of the first schools to offer a full day kindergarten.  Emerald Elementary is part of the Boulder Valley School District.  During the 2009-2010 school year a new gym was added to the school, and the cafeteria and the office area was remodeled.

Motto:  We're on FIRE!
Our staff and students have Focus, Integrity, Respect, Empathy
School Colors: Green and White
Mascot:  Snortner the Dragon

Program Characteristics:

Every teacher at Emerald is dedicated to designing thoughtful and intentional differentiated instruction to ensure that each child is held to the highest of expectations. Teachers here know that they need to plan varied instruction that challenges and engages all of our students. It is part of what attracted our staff to work in this school in the first place! In the differentiated classrooms you will find at Emerald, individual student needs are considered in the lesson planning process—there is not a one-size-fits-all or “aim for the middle” approach. Through careful design, almost all of the instruction that each child receives is provided in the classroom in an inclusive setting, with a lower teacher-to-student ratio than the majority of schools in the district.

Special Programs and Opportunities
Students at Emerald have all kinds of other opportunities, such as Talented and Gifted programming, Instrumental Music at 5th grade, full-day kindergarten, preschool, Reading Recovery, English Language Development, Special Education, Title I Reading and Math, Community Liaison support, full-time Literacy Teacher Interventionist, full-time Social Worker, Universal Breakfast, Family Literacy Program, 21st Century Learning Grant which we call “Dragon School”, and a host of other volunteer programs, such as the “Kids’ Hope” mentoring program.

Students can also participate in: “Dragon School”, Student Council, Spelling Bee, After-School Tutoring and Homework Support, At-Risk Girls Club, Boulder Valley Art Show, Friendship Groups, Health Fair, Summer School, Chess Club, Battle of the Books, and many other clubs that happen throughout the year.

Principals Message:
 Dear Emerald Community,

Thank you for visiting our website. Emerald Elementary is a neighborhood school in Broomfield, serving students from pre-school through 5th grade and their families. We are tucked back in a neighborhood just north of 120th Street and Highway 36. Emerald has been an integral part of the Broomfield community for over 50 years! Many of our parents and grandparents were once Emerald students themselves. There is something special and magical about Emerald that brings families back here every year.
Emerald is a school that has a diverse population. Currently, Emerald serves families and students who speak sixteen different languages. We are proud to provide direct instruction for children learning English as their second language through our English Language Development program which is staffed by two specialists. Additionally, Emerald has a very experienced, skilled, knowledgeable teaching staff. We provide explicit instruction that is engaging and customized to meet the individual needs of each student. Our staff also uses a Professional Learning Community model of collaboration to ensure that we work together so that every Emerald student meets his or her full potential. Emerald has implemented a comprehensive Positive Behavior Support program that keeps everyone in the school on track for maximized learning. We use the acronym “F.I.R.E.” which stands for “focus, integrity, respect, and empathy” to ensure that our school is a calm, safe learning environment.
Parent and family involvement is also a highlight of Emerald. Each year the school community comes together for amazing community events including the Dragon Dash Fun Run, Fall Festival, Broomfield Days, and the Spring Carnival. Additionally, Emerald was recently awarded the 21st Century Learning Grant that funds a comprehensive after school academic enrichment program.Students at Emerald are lucky to have high quality, engaging, fun after school learning activities. In general, the very best thing about Emerald Elementary is the warm, welcoming, cheerful feeling that you get every time you come through the doors. Go Emerald Dragons!
