About Our School:
Flatirons Elementary is a warm and welcoming neighborhood school within walking distance of Chautauqua Park, CU, and Downtown.  Our long tradition of providing outstanding educational experiences is accomplished through the efforts of an excellent and collaborative faculty and staff, as well as supportive and energetic parent volunteers.  Creative thinking is encouraged via Project-Based Learning.  As a No Place for Hate school, Flatirons strives to be a bias-free environment.  We value diverse family systems, races, cultures, religions, genders, and abilities, fostering an inclusive environment where a true sense of belonging to the classroom, school, and community is nurtured in each student.

Program Characteristics:

Flatirons is a relatively small neighborhood school. We continue to serve second and third generation Flatirons families. Ninety parent, community and university volunteers work in our classrooms weekly. They help teachers differentiate their instruction by using small, flexible group instruction.

Historically our staff, parents and students give us very high marks regarding all of the areas measured by the district's revised “Snapshot” survey and by the new Flatiron’s School Improvement Team survey. Communication between the school and home is a focus of every classroom and the school as a whole.

The staff is highly experienced at providing a strong academic program and a social and emotional program that strives to ensure students leaving our school are competent, caring, contributing members of society. Students are confronted with an instructional program that has high expectations and is presented in developmentally appropriate contexts. Service learning activities are an expected part of every child’s experience every year.

What parents say …

“It was the feel of Flatirons as a safe, fun, disciplined and friendly place.”

“The strong sense of community/high parent involvement.”

“We wanted to support and be part of our neighborhood schools – and we have loved that aspect of Flatirons.”

“We came to this school mid-year. As newcomers, we were warmly welcomed to Flatirons and have been impressed by the school overall.”

“We’re new to this district, so I can’t speak about other schools, but the principal and the team at Flatirons Elementary have a wonderful school. I would volunteer there even if I didn’t have a student. . . it’s a great environment.”

Principals Message:
Welcome to the Flatirons Elementary School website!

Flatirons Elementary is a warm and welcoming neighborhood school within walking distance of Chautauqua Park, CU, and downtown Boulder.  Our long tradition of providing outstanding educational experiences is accomplished through the efforts of an excellent and collaborative faculty and staff, as well as supportive and energetic parent volunteers.

The partnership between staff and parents is critical to giving each child a positive learning experience.  At Flatirons, we have over 100 parents volunteering in some capacity at school-- in classrooms, in the library, at school events, or on field trips.  We are so thankful for a strong and vibrant PTO that bolsters student and staff resources, providing for paraeducators, assemblies, technology, field trips and more.

Teachers participate in extensive professional development throughout the year and regularly meet in grade-level teams to ensure consistency in grade-level curriculum.  Creative thinking is encouraged via Project-Based Learning, as we endeavor to inspire students to be lifelong learners-- curious, creative, analytical, adaptable and motivated to fulfill their highest potential.

As a No Place for Hate school, Flatirons strives to be a bias-free environment.  We value diverse family systems, races, cultures, religions, genders, and abilities, fostering an inclusive environment where a true sense of belonging to the classroom, school, and community is nurtured in each student.

We are so excited about developing programs that promote academic, social, and emotional success for our students -- check out the rest of our site to see what’s happening.  Better yet, come by and experience all that we have to offer at Flatirons Elementary!

Sincerely,

Scott Boesel, Principal
