About Our School:
Louisville Elementary is a neighborhood school in the heart of Old Town Louisville. At Louisville, student achievement, along with building students’ self-esteem and self-confidence in a safe, caring environment, is our primary focus. We strive to see our students become self-confident lifelong learners. Students in first through fifth grades participate in 55-minute (30 minutes for kindergartners) reading instruction blocks. Students are grouped by individual needs. We also group and regroup students for one-hour math blocks in second through fifth grades. Our high-quality instructional program has resulted in increased student achievement in all content areas. Parents support our school in a multitude of ways, from volunteering at school to organizing fun and well-attended school social events. Louisville Elementary has the Green Star School designation from Eco-Cycle for our recycling, composting and special waste reduction activities program. LES is a true community school!

Program Characteristics:

Louisville Elementary School (LES) offers a rigorous and inclusive academic program. Teachers encourage higher level thinking skills, problem solving strategies, and differentiation of instruction to meet the unique learning characteristics our children.  Collaboration within the grade-level teams as well as K-5 teams is also an essential norm established at Louisville Elementary to support all learners.

Our programming, and in turn our school environment, focuses on brain-based research. Stand-up desks are available in every classroom, along with therapy balls for seating, head phones to reduce distractions, and a variety of other sensory tools to assist students in achieving at their highest level. Teachers integrate Michael Gurian brain-based learning strategies into their instruction daily.

At LES, we are proud of our student achievement! Our school-wide flooded literacy block supports each grade level with 55 minutes of small group reading instruction per day. “Double-Dosing” is also scheduled for our struggling readers. Every grade level offers a daily 60-minute writers’ workshop for all our students, to help them become better writers. Our grade level math blocks focus on providing differentiated instruction for students, which has allowed our students to show a high level of student achievement in the area of mathematics.

We offer two vibrant programs for our special needs populations: Special Education resource support program for students with mild to moderate needs, and an intensive program for students with more significant support needs. Both programs work through a school-wide inclusion model to support students with special needs in meeting their Individualized Education Plans (IEP) goals.

LES has a Talented and Gifted (TAG) program that challenges students and extends their thinking in core academics as well as in the arts and creative thinking. Our on-site TAG coordinator organizes TAG enrichment opportunities throughout the year.

Our ELD (English Language Development) program is led by two very experienced bilingual teachers. Students access the WIDA (World-class Instructional Design and Assessment) standards via their classroom teacher and their ELD specialist. The level of support provided is based on student needs.

LES offers academic and behavior intervention (RtI – Response to Intervention) opportunities for all students who would benefit from these reinforcements. The extra support and services we wrap around students helps them achieve at their highest potential, allowing them to feel success, build confidence, and feel connected to their school community.
