About Our School:

Superior Elementary offers a content-rich curriculum that addresses all District and Common Core State standards. Our goal is to set high academic standards for learning and create dynamic learning environments where students explore and investigate using critical thinking skills. Highlights of this curriculum include a spiraling social studies curriculum with engaging topics through which children learn American and world history, geography, and the study of many cultures. Science topics are reinforced through hands-on activities, experiments and observations. A comprehensive language arts curriculum enhances and extends across all subject areas. We have exceptional programs in physical education, music and art. Choirs, clubs, intramural sports and enrichment classes extend the school day. Our Positive Behavior Intervention Support program unites the school around the words of respect, acceptance and responsibility. The latest in media and technology are available throughout the school--televised morning announcements, iPads, chrome books, internet research and a wireless building add to rich integration of technology into the curriculum.

Program Characteristics:
Superior Elementary opened in 1996 in the center of the community of Rock Creek in the town of Superior, Colorado.

Superior Elementary offers a content-rich curriculum that addresses all BVSD content standards. Our goal is to set high academic standards for learning in a safe, positive school environment.  Students consistently perform above the BVSD and State of Colorado standards for learners. Highlights of this curriculum include a spiraling social studies curriculum with engaging topics through which children learn American and world history, geography, and the study of many cultures. Science topics are reinforced through student experimentation and observation. A comprehensive language arts curriculum enhances and extends all subject areas.

Exceptional programs in physical education, music, and art are offered to all students. Choir, clubs, intramural sports and enrichment classes extend the school day. Superior Elementary offers specialized instruction in literacy, special education, and talented and gifted education. BVSD's Kindergarten Enrichment program provides an extended-day option. The YMCA offers after-school childcare.

Classroom cross-grade level buddies, student leadership opportunities, community service projects, and school-wide spirit days round out students’ experiences at Superior Elementary and make it an exciting place to learn.

The latest in media and technology are available throughout the school, including televised morning announcements, I pads, internet research, a wireless building, and an automated library system. A comprehensive technology curriculum matrix guides our use of technological resources.

Parents actively support the school by volunteering in classrooms, serving on decision-making committees, assisting with field trips, raising funds to support a variety of learning activities, attending parent teacher conferences, and participating in parent training nights focused on literacy, math and effective parenting.

Throughout its history, Superior Elementary has become an exceptional neighborhood school, receiving awards for excellence from the State of Colorado. Students who attend Superior Elementary gain the knowledge and behaviors needed to become successful citizens.

Principals Message:
Superior Elementary is a friendly neighborhood school offering an outstanding educational program to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Superior Elementary mission states that, “We will encourage all students to reach their individual potential by engaging in challenging learning experiences. We will prepare students to think independently, logically and creatively; to enjoy learning; to be respectful of others; and to act as responsible citizens.” Our academic standards are high and students come to school each day with an understanding of the importance of doing their best as learners. As one of the highest performing schools in the state, Superior has received the “John J. Irwin School of Excellence Award” nine times. While our school community is understandably proud of academic measures of success, we believe that all aspects of a child’s education must be addressed by our school’s program and we strive for continuous improvement.

Students are provided an ambitious and rigorous course of instruction. There is strong team work among teachers across all grades and with our specialists. Everyone is involved and connected to each other, including parents and members of the community. Superior Elementary is committed to providing to all students a high quality education with an emphasis on student engagement, instructional differentiation and instructional complexity. Our staff members are dedicated to improving student achievement and having a positive impact on each and every one of their students.

At Superior Elementary we are committed to creating an environment where students feel confident, respected and safe. Programs like Positive Behavior Intervention Support help to develop character traits. Each year students at all grade levels are recognized for their academic, artistic, athletic, musical and creative accomplishments. We have outstanding extracurricular programs, clubs, competitions, leadership opportunities and enrichment activities. Students run an effective student council; classes buddy up with others at different grade levels; and students, teachers and parents work together to plan community service projects. Our PTA provides fun family-oriented events, while raising money to support school-wide activities and field trips for students. Superior Elementary School is a wonderful learning community thanks to its committed staff, highly-involved parents and hardworking students. Together we create an excitement and love for learning designed to last a lifetime.

Dedicated to education excellence,
