Blogs are a simple way
to communicate with parents, staff and community
members. Unlike traditional school newsletters that are uploaded as individual
documents to a website, the blog provides easy access to current and
past "posts" on a single page. You may assign categories
to your blog to allow filtering by topic and you may also choose to allow (or
not allow) comments from the public. Posts can be created directly from the
website or in MS Word.
Instructions
On your blog site, you will see links under Blog Tools that
allow you to Mange Posts and Manage Comments directly on the blog
site. Since all posts are stored in a SharePoint list, you will edit
the list to make these changes.
These instructions are only visible to content editors when they are logged in.
You
can also post to your blog directly from MS Word 2013:
File>Share>Post to Blog. The first time you do this, follow the
steps to register your blog.
Special instructions for Word and PowerPoint
attachments: To insert a Word or PowerPoint document in a
blog,:
- Upload the file to the Documents library
- Open the document and copy the URL
- In the blog post, click Insert from Address on the Ribbon; enter the
Text to Display and paste the URL; click OK
Categories (optional)
If you plan to create several blog posts, or posts
about different subjects, it is a good idea to set up categories. Your readers
can click the category that they want to read and easily
find posts that they are interested in.
Select Manage Categories under Blog Tools.
RSS feed: Visitors to your site have the option to
subscribe to the blog through an RSS feed. Individuals must have already
chosen an RSS feed reader.
Blog images
To display a blog post image on the Current Families and Learn More pages:
- Upload an image with the exact same name as the title of the post in this library: http://ml8.bvsd.org/blog/Lists/Photos/Forms/Thumbnails.aspx
- To display an image in the post itself, you must place it in the body of the post.
Can look at post 1 as the example.
3. Title 1 description is the text that shows on blog post on Current Families
