General Instructions
Copy/paste.
When copying content from another source (your previous website, a document, etc.), you must clear formatting (highlight text and select Clear Format) and convert to XHTML (click the HTML drop-down and select Convert to XHTML .
Mark-Up Styles.
To change the font size or style, highlight the text and select a style by clicking the drop-down under Mark-Up Styles.
Web Parts.
Do NOT delete web parts that are part of the template; close them instead. (Edit the page; click the arrow to edit the specific web part and select Close). This will allow you to Restore a web part at a later date, if desired.
Unpublish pages, don't delete!
Template pages you will not use should be Unpublished. To do so, navigate to the page and make sure the Ribbon is showing (Site Actions>Show Ribbon). Click the Publish tab, then click Unpublish on the Ribbon. NOTE: You will still see the page in the navigation when signed in.
Document libraries.
Upload (on Ribbon) or Drag & Drop multiple images/documents
MS Office documents (Word, Excel). If you are manually adding a MS Office document link on a page and want it to open in the browser (not download), follow these steps:
Navigate to the document library
Right click on the document>Copy link location
Navigate to the page where you want to add the document link>Type the document name>On the Ribbon>Insert Link>From Address>Paste Link
Note: When a document library is added to a page, steps 1-3 are not necessary. Documents will open in the web browser.
Modify navigation links on a subsite.
Navigate to the subsite>
GEAR>Site Settings>Navigation
Add a link: >Select Add Link>Enter title, URL, check "Open in new browser window" if desired>Click Move Up/Move Down if you want to re-order the link>SAVE.
Edit or Delete a link: Select the link>Click Edit/Delete at top>SAVE
Publish/Check-in multiple photos/documents at one time
in the Content and Structure view (Gear>Site Settings>Site Administration>Content and Structure)
Embed html code (Google calendar, You Tube or Vimeo video, Twitter or Facebook feeds, etc.)
Click Add a webpart>Media and Content>Script Editor>Add
Copy the Embed (html) code from the application
Click Edit Snippet in the webpart>Paste the html code
Change width to "100%"
Click Insert
Publish the page
Obtain Embed code for You Tube vide0
Navigate to the video
Click Share>Embed>Copy html code
Obtain Embed code for Google Form
Navigate to the form
Click SEND>Embed icon>change width to 100%>Copy
Go Live Checklist
Make sure all pages you are using are PUBLISHED and not checked out; Unpublish pages that are not being used.
Make sure all images and documents that require Publishing are indeed published. (Tip: You can "mass publish" from the Content and Structure view: Gear>Site Settings>Content and Structure (under Site Administration)>open each library (pages, documents, images)>Select all>Publish. Be sure to open any folders and publish items there, too.
Remove all Lorem Ipsum text and replace with school-specific information.
Complete staff profiles with as much information as possible (images, contact information, etc.).
If using a Google calendar, embed calendar on homepage and on Calendar page under About Us.
Update homepage Footer.
Set alerts on Contact Us list and, if using, Attendance list.
Without signing in, review site for overall accuracy and completeness.
Confirm that all formatting is correct and consistent.
Check permissions: site owners, members, contributors, workflows…
